Targeted Apple attacks trigger urgent updates for older systems

Targeted users on older Apple systems face an issue that may already have been exploited. The weakness affects CoreGraphics and can allow arbitrary code execution when a device processes a maliciously crafted file. Apple released fixes for iOS 26, macOS 26, and macOS 15. The company said iOS and macOS 27 are not affected. It also described the reported activity as an extremely sophisticated attack against specific individuals.
That means delayed updates are especially risky for people in sensitive roles. Leaders should confirm that executives, researchers, journalists, and other high-risk users aren’t stranded on affected operating-system branches. Defenders should accelerate deployment, verify version coverage, and investigate unexpected file-processing crashes or suspicious activity. Broad panic isn’t warranted because the reported attacks were targeted rather than indiscriminate. Still, older supported branches can carry different security exposure from current releases, and that difference must be visible in patch reporting. Update affected Apple devices immediately and verify completion first for users with elevated access or sensitive communications.
