London cloud outage disrupts banks, courts and health services
This is a DailyCyber.News update, brought to you by BareMetalCyber.com, for Wednesday, October 21st, 2026.
A power event in Google Cloud’s London region interrupted banking, court video links, business websites and some healthcare appointment access. The incident began in the europe-west2-b zone and affected services including Cloud Run, App Engine, Kubernetes Engine and Filestore. Revolut linked temporary disruption across its app to the cloud outage and later said its services had been restored. Importantly, the reporting does not identify this as a cyberattack or data breach.
The outage turned one infrastructure failure into visible disruption across several unrelated sectors. Revolut customers had problems with payments, withdrawals and account services. Remote court proceedings and some appointment booking were also affected. For leaders, the takeaway is that cloud availability must be treated as a business continuity issue, not only as the provider’s responsibility. For defenders, keep availability triage separate from breach response until the evidence supports a security incident.
The practical next step is to test cross-zone and cross-region failover for essential services, then document manual operating paths for payments, hearings and customer support.
