Hidden email prompts can manipulate trusted AI assistants
Daily Cyber News: Phishing emails are baiting your AI assistant
Avoiding a suspicious link or attachment may not be enough when an AI assistant is reading the same inbox. Researchers found emails containing concealed instructions designed to influence how an assistant summarizes or prioritizes a message. In one example, the hidden prompt tried to create a fake priority action telling an employee to change a vendor’s payment details.
Key context: The instructions can be hidden in HTML comments, invisible text, encoded content or zero-width characters.
Additional detail: For leaders, financial and sensitive data decisions still need accountable human approval, even when an AI tool presents the recommendation.
