South Korean authorities are investigating customer data exposure across several major financial institutions. Officials confirmed a breach at Shinhan Bank and other incidents involving Kookmin Bank. Hana Bank also reported a limited compromise of a sales-support system. Local reports put the affected totals at twenty five thousand Shinhan customers and one hundred nineteen thousand Kookmin credit card clients.

Authorities have launched on-site investigations and told financial companies to strengthen monitoring and incident reporting. The exposed data could support payment fraud, impersonation, or targeted phishing, although complete details about the affected fields have not been released.

A Chinese-language reference to an AI penetration-testing tool appeared on a server used in the attacks. That clue does not prove the tool was used, and authorities have not connected the incidents to a specific actor.

For leaders, customer protection and possible compensation may become significant operational concerns. For defenders, preserve evidence and keep confirmed findings separate from AI-related speculation. Review access to customer data, increase fraud monitoring, and provide clients with a verified channel for checking suspicious bank communications.
